Questions & Answers

Choosing a Bridge Design

Start with the application and span. Short crossings with low dead load suit the Cortez; classic vehicular spans suit the Cambridge and Cambridge Flat; architectural or gateway crossings suit the Seneca and Viking; the longest spans use the Thru Truss; light and recreational sites suit the Voyager; and rapid or emergency builds use the modular Liberty. Use the filters above to narrow by application and span, or contact a U.S. Bridge representative for a recommendation.

A Warren truss (Cambridge and Cambridge Flat) uses a series of equilateral triangles and eliminates vertical members at the top-chord panel points, which is very efficient in steel. A Pratt-based truss (Voyager, Seneca, Viking and Liberty) adds vertical members at every panel point, which shrinks the floor beams and can minimize or eliminate stringers.

Yes. Every U.S. Bridge design is engineered to current AASHTO standards (HL-93 and HS-20) and stamped by a licensed Professional Engineer. U.S. Bridge is an AISC-certified Advanced Steel Bridge Fabricator.

Yes. Span, width, skew, camber, loading, railing, decking and finish are all tailored to your site. U.S. Bridge also engineers pedestrian, railroad and fully custom specialty structures beyond the standard vehicular lineup.
